Sandra Louise Dyas

Sandy Dyas visiting an exhibit of her work

The truth is the way to reveal something about your life, your thoughts, where you stand. It doesn't just stand there alone, the truth. It stands there combined with art. I want to make something that has more of the truth and not so much of art. Which means you have to go out on a limb — because people are more comfortable dealing wth art that with the truth.

Faulkner Gallery, Grinnell College: Lost Nation Series: Roots of Renewal

The Faulkner Gallery at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa, will exhibit selected works from the Lost Nation Series through December 14, 2003.

Roots of Renewal is an exhibition that offers new ways of looking at and thinking about the Upper Midwest. The 18 artists chosen to exhibit their work either currently live in the Midwest or once lived here. All mediums were represented. It was a celebration and a critique of the present day Midwest.

"Sandra Dyas aims her lens at her roots — rural and small town Iowa. With her camera she creates an affectionate if quirky picture of a good world slowly fading away as we merge into the homeogeneiity of Wal-Mart, Home Depot and the outlet mall. She sees renewal in the particulars of small, cherished moments."

The Faulconer Gallery at Grinnell College held this exhibit. September 6 - December 14th, 2003. Curator, Lesley Wright.
